Snakes scare the crap out of me. I think it's an innate human response to have an adrenaline jump when seeing anything on a ride that resembles a snake.
I ran over a snake once (I'm in New England so it wasn't a real snake), but I had more than a couple nightmares about it.
Mountian biking in Sedona Arizona there was a stretch of trail where there were about 10 rattlesnakes sunning themselves on the road.
I hightailed it back to the bike shop (Bikes and Beans) and asked for a refund.

Snakes or no snakes, Guam would still be better than riding in the Northeast during winter.
