My ongaurd mini u-lock weighs only 1 pound 6.2 ounces on my kitchen scale. That's just the U-lock without the included cable. I just put the lock through my frame and rear wheel and call it a day. I do park in a low theft area, though. And I have a short wheelbase, which makes it loads easier to get the frame and wheel inside of the lock.
