Shifter Ergo Comparison...

I've ridden most of the new stuff briefly and would like to share a comment or two and then ask those that have now lived with Sram a while a question about ergos.

I find all the hood shapes of the new stuff to be fine and a definite improvement over the old skinny hoods of Campy in particular and could easily adapt to any of the new shifters. I find the Sram shifting simple...with big paddle and only one direction for up and down shifting and simple is good when out on the road. I have a bit of love hate with the new Ultegra as I always have had with Shimano because both levers are next to each other and the big complaint with the latest Ultegra if riding with gloves is brushing the brake lever when shifting the inside lever causes missed shifts. No doubt there are many here that love Shimano and prefer the brake lever that pivots laterally but I have never been much of a fan. Campy is my favorite group for aesthetics and ergonomics though as I have written in another thread, set up is super finicky relative to cable friction unlike Sram and also noting that Shimano's new under handlebar tape routing in an effort to compete with Campy has also caused them problems trying to uphold their super light shifting action and light rear derailleur springs like Campy.

So there is no perfect group out there and some hate the Campy thumb upshift which I happen to like because it separates up and down shifting with different levers which is intuitive to me when in the battle so to speak.

I have tried to like Sram. I love the shifting honestly. Yes...Sram doesn't have the finesse of Campy or Shimano IMHO...because of their 1:1 cable pull and monster rear derailleur spring but who ever complains about lazy shifting with Sram related to cable routing? A lot to be said for....Sram performs and is simple which most of us appreciate.

I will tell you what I can't get beyond or I need some help from others that know and have lived with Sram shifters perhaps coming from another gruppo mfr. Have a look below at the picture comparison. In my hands Campy feels perfect with Ultegra a close second. I like the tops of Sram hoods just fine but there is a gaping hole under the shifter near the lever which I maybe could never get used to. Again I have only ridden Sram briefly. When climbing out of the saddle which I do frequently...I take a relatively firm grasp on the hoods and rock the bike up the hill. Most that ride do the same thing. My fingers under the hoods on Sram find the big hole under the shifter as shown by the yellow arrow which to me at least is not nearly as friendly of an under shifter surface to grasp compared to the others.

My question to those that love Sram and I do understand the allure of that gruppo...do the under shifter ergos bother you at all?...get used to it?...never was an issue?
Thanks.
