I have purchased multi-tools over the years that had been so awkward to use that I got rid of them. Some are better than others.

These days, I carry a combination of single-purpose tools and one or two multi-tools. Multi-tools are great, as long as they get the job done. But if I have to struggle, I don't hesitate to carry the tool that makes it easy, or at least, easier.

For me, the weight "penalty" of not relying 100% on multi-tools is 100 or 200 grams. This difference is of no consequence in the bigger scheme of things! Or even in the smaller scheme of things...
