One more thing. I never ride without gloves. It's not because I'm afraid of getting road rash if crash, it's just easier on my hands.
I never used to ride a road bike with bike shorts years ago but I never seemed to have needed them with a leather saddle. Now that I've got a new bike, I sprung for the shorts.
