It was when I began to ride really hard that I decided I needed something better than Sora/Tiagra. Since I managed to get all my Dura-Ace stuff at 105/Ultegra prices, it was a no-brainer for me to go all the way.
One thing I liked about the thumb shifting was the rapid-fire like shifting when coming off of a hill. "Click-click-click" and I was were I needed to be without reaching down and around for a lever. I ride the hoods most of the time. When I ride in the drops, I don't change gears much. And when I did with my Sora shifters, it wasn't much of a stretch for me.
