For commuting I find wind to be a big factor on my 17 mile commute. I've done it in as little as 1:05, typically it takes 1:15 to get to work. The prevailing wind is behind me in the morning. That means the ride home in the afternoon takes more like 1:30, sometimes a little longer if the winds are strong. I know several people who commute on LHTs; they are well suited to the job and very comfortable. (I have a faux LHT- an old hybrid I've put a Brooks on and drop bars with bar-end shifters.)
