That's a good way to break your collar bone. When falling from a stop - if your falling side pedal is down, you're really only falling about 6 inches. If done properly, your body is rolling onto the ground, from your feet up. If you grab your jersey, you'll avoid sticking your arm out and landing with all your weight on it, which will help prevent breaking anything important.
