There were several points at which I could have turned east to head toward Yosemite -- but, for instance, from Merced it's 80 miles one-way, and there's a whole lot o' climbing involved. A lovely tour, and especially scenic this year with the high river flows, but not the stuff of a quick two-day weekend excursion, alas.
