Yeah. What's the problem here??? Just degrease it with citrus degreaser, wipe off, dry it(with compressed air if you have access to it), lube. Done.

Problem Solved.

BTW, I know what Phil Wood Waterproof grease looks like. It's green and pasty. Did you just apply a little on there or did you go to town and do the whole chain? the only chain lube that I know of that green is the Finish line extreme weather lube, but it is in liquid form.

This is puzzling.
