If you love Idyllwild, you'll really love Fawn Skin which is on the far end of Lake Arrowhead. Only problem with Idyllwild is that it's a small mountain resort town. So you'd better be able to live in it's small tourist economy, or have geographically independent income or be rich. Used to go up there for the 4th of July celebrations. Great arts community. Wonderful place.

You gotta love hills though. Idyllwild is 5,345 feet and 7 miles away, as the crow flies, Palm Springs is a mere 440 feet.
