i know others have given you examples, but figured one more wouldn't hurt. i rode a century this summer and there was a woman with one hand riding a tri bike. she seemed to be doing just fine, and i don't know what the setup was for brakes/shifters/etc., but it's definitely doable. i hope you find a good solution for your son.
