Haiti was much worse... the infrastructure there was so poor that the devastation caused by their smaller earthquake was magnified by many degrees.

It is all horrible... the tsunami not only wiped out homes and lives but the lands that were covered with ocean water will no longer be arable and able to produce food due to the salt contamination and will become deserts.

The sooner my fiancée can move here the better... she lives in Portland and the Cascadia subduction is due for another major event which would cause destruction the likes of which no-one has ever seen.

It might be cold here in the winter but we do not have to worry about earthquakes, hurricanes, and tsunamis and it is only once in a while we see any kind of significant tornado activity.

I would never live on a fault line no matter how nice the place was.

The last time this moved (1700's) it shifted over 70 feet and caused destructive tsunamis in Japan... their Imperial records have recorded this and aboriginal histories also refer to this.
