"Hon (Dahon) California" - missing frame clamp. Suggestions?

Hey guys,

I acquired a Hon California this weekend, stainless steel, based on the serial number appears to be from 1983. It is complete, aside from the seat post/seat not being original, EXCEPT for the part that latches the frame shut - see attached pictures.

I've been told on the Dahon forums, and I know some of you are members of both, that there is no available commercial replacement for this part, and I need to scrounge eBay/Craigslist/whatever to try and find another bike and swap parts. Any other suggestions?

For my own use... I might try fabricating a clamp out of bolts and some metal stock. But eventually I'd like the "real thing" to complete the bike. I'm not actually sure I want/need this bike, but I couldn't pass it up for $20.

Thanks for any advice, tips and pointers.

Philip
