Ok, time to get this off my chest. I used to use SPD pedals, with the single direction release. I adjusted them to the lightest spring tension allowed (there is a marking that you are not supposed to go past) and still found it hard to get out of, and hard on the knee to twist the heel to get out of the pedal. I think I used it this way for a few months without falling. I got into the habit of unclipping the right foot when I stopped and then stepping down on my right foot. Then one day I unclipped my right foot and fell down on my left side. Kind of a sickening feeling to be falling to the left and pulling on your foot and it just won't come out within the split second it takes to fall over. I somehow ended up with a scar of a chainring pattern embedded in my calf that looks like it'll be permanent since it is still clearly visible after four months. For now I am riding with bike shoes but no cleats on platform pedals and that works pretty well. So anyway my question is this:
Q: Does there exist a kind of pedal is easiest to get out of in a hurry (split second), without fighting against it? Is there even such a thing? I noticed the speedplay frogs website said something about it being really easy to unclip because you did not go against spring tension.
