Personally I hate the look of end caps. I solder, using silver solder and stainless flux. If you slightly unwind the cable end, dip the last inch in flux, then re-wind the wires the flux will work perfectly. It will suck the solder right into the cable without leaving any buildup on the outside. This leaves a clean cut cable end that easily slides in and out of housings for maintenance.

This intrigues me. I love the idea of keeping the cables serviceable without being forced to replace them due to frayed ends...
Since I know absolutely nothing about soldering, could one find the stainless steel flux and suitable soldering iron at any Ace/True Value Hardware store?
