If you slightly unwind the cable end, dip the last inch in flux, then re-wind the wires the flux will work perfectly. This intrigues me. I love the idea of keeping the cables serviceable without being forced to replace them due to frayed ends...

Since I know absolutely nothing about soldering, could one find the stainless steel flux and suitable soldering iron at any Ace/True Value Hardware store?
