I was sorta wondering if those cables would interfere with a bidon cage, but I guess your solution isnt any different from the original routing so I guess not!
Alternatively I suppose you coulda knocked the downtube stops off too, although your solution was easier- though maybe not cheaper for anyone whom happens to already have the normal clamp-on stuff at hand.
