This morning it was pouring rain and hovering just above 32°F. I had scheduled an appointment with my bike mechanic for 2:00, so reluctantly walked my bike down to the subway (4 blocks in the freezing rain) and then sat there for the 30 minute train ride watching it rust and feeling miserable. And then I had to walk another 4 blocks in the rain to get to my office. By 2:00 the rain had stopped, the streets were dry, my mechanic helped me out immensely (thanks, Mark!), and I walked the now smooth-running bike back to the office feeling pretty good.
Note: At this point I still had not "ridden today"
...but by 6:30 this evening the clouds were long gone, the sun was out, and it was a flabbergastingly-mild 55°F. You better freakin' believe I rode today! A whole whopping 13 miles, but man, it was worth it. What a gorgeous day it turned out to be.
