Light padding (body armor) for road riding?

Went down 3 times last year (which is 3 more times than the 3 years prior to that), and got some unfortunate road rash. Luckily, nothing broken.

Went down once on wet pavement on a downhill, once on another downhill when my front tire flatted out suddenly, and another time on a sharp corner on an unfamiliar route hammerhead group ride where the guy in front of me didn't call out (he called all the other turns before that, but that particular turn was probably so sharp that he couldn't even take his hands off the hoods.) My bike handling skills aren't terrible - I do regular road group rides and ride non-float rollers regularly (even do basic tricks on them.)

After those wipes, I've unfortunately become much more hesitant on descents and fast corners. I know it sounds ridiculous, and I know someone's gotten flamed in the past for asking the same exact question but I think I'd get back up to speed faster if I wore light padding/body armor over the knees/elbows - especially given how well protected my hands have been by just wearing cycling gloves.

Of course, I know nothing will protect against major bone-breaking impacts, but I'm more worried about the road rash stuff as that's controllable.

Anybody use anything they'd recommend?
