In the end, I decided to go with the JTS for 2 reasons: 1) I already owned a MJ and know that I love the fit/feel/performance of the jake series, 2) This bike is going to be raced during the cx season and I think the edge there goes to the JTS (although I have seen plenty of Cross Checks on local podiums).
Fair enough. I usually take mine on the road and hit railtrails etc and never do any hardcore off road stuff much less race. I selected the Cross Check mostly cause the ride of a steel frame (no knock on Aluminum etcs I just like steel) as well as the versatility of being able to stick almost any tire I wanted with fenders and rack. The JTS definitely has the CC beat in the weight dept.
