My well adjusted cable system never has this problem. I can see the lag on the front der being noticeable between the two based on what I've read and heard but I think that would really only occur at the upper limit of equipment's performance.

I'd agree that the the differences are more pronounced the harder you push the equipment.
That was my point. My cheap bike has a rubbish headset that has been repleced many times under waranty and adjusted by myself and 4 different shops and still has adudible and noticable play in it. It is absolute junk. I think because the frame is not machined properly, I dont know and no mechanic has been able to sort it out. If i lean on the bars it lets out a loud crack as it moves, it does this on every pedal stroke when im standing. I have had it adjusted by different shops and every time i pick it up I lean on the bars the play comes back and they dont charge me because they cant fix it. A headset is such a simple thing I can only assume the steerer is not straight of the head tube itself is not straight or in line top to bottom.

Well adjusted cables are great, but they really dont compare to Di2
