Maybe it would be helpful to inject the discussion with an idea of levels like "the perfect 2000 dollar bike", "the perfect 4000 bike", etc. A more reasonable set of choices can then be made. Perfection is an elusive goal, never to be achieved, but at any given time, with the existing technology, a set can be proposed.
