I don't know if he accepted a ride to the hospital by the ambulance. I didn't see any road rash on him and he said he didn't hit the ground hard, and wasn't complaining of any pain. I know from my own falls in the past that it's easy to underestimate one's own injuries until some time later, but I'm sure the EMTs on the scene checked under his clothes for injuries and would catch anything serious.
I've read over 75 car-bike collision reports written by Cary Police in the past; I can tell from the reports that they will take a report if the cyclist is not transported by ambulance and can leave under his or her own power. It does, however, need to involve a motor vehicle, and not just another cyclist or pedestrian, or a fall.
