Saddle help please...
I'm lost... Over the last couple of seasons I've tried a number of saddles and I'm to the point that I don't know what to try next...
I've tried:
In order...
Fizik Aliante... couldn't find a comfortable spot that didn't cause numbness after about an hour...
Max Flite Gel Flow... This saddle just felt too wide, I felt like I couldn't get back to where you're supposed to sit...
Flite Gen Gel Ti... Rode this one for a couple of months but I guess the gel settled or something because it started to feel like I was sitting on the bare shell and then it started causing numbness...
SLR XP... This looked like a very flat saddle in the pictures, but where you sit has kind of a 'knoll' and it feels like you're sitting on a walnut... Numbness and pain at about 2 hours...
Fizik Antares... I almost didn't try this one because of my experience with the Aliante, but it has turned out to be the best so far. It's good for about 3 - 4 hours before it gets painful. The main problem I seem to have with it is that at its widest place it has a sort of point and that pokes into the back of my legs and keeps me from moving back to where the 'sweet spot' seems to be...
On all of these I have move them for and aft as well as tilting them up and down trying to get them where they need to be...
Last year I did just under 800 hours on the bike, so I think I'm putting in enough time to toughen up my butt... But maybe not...
I went thru the 'Century Bikes' thread and counted 86 Brooks type saddles, the next most frequent was the Flite at 15. Most of the Flites seem to be the old style. I'm sure there will be Brooks suggestions, and that's fine, I don't mind trying a Brooks, but there are several different flavors and I don't have a clue...
I thought I read somewhere that the different Brooks saddles were designed for different positions... If it helps, I ride with a pretty fair drop...
Sadly, there aren't any shops near me that have demos (other than the Fizik's) so I'm doing this experiment on my own dime...
I am hoping to do a couple of Brevets this season, but I gotta fix this...
Thanks,
Dave
