Agreed. I'll probably incorporate this info in a column this year, expanding on the column I wrote last about a couple of studies (out of Toronto and the UK) that placed the vast majority of blame in car/bike collisions on the motorists.

I should look at the studies again because if I remember right, those stuies involved few children.

never underestimate the impact of drunk cyclists though. They represent a large portion of adult cycling fatalities.

I'm not sure about such a specific breakdown for Vancouver, but i do know, that in an examination of all bike/motor vehicle collisions in BC over a 3 year period, that when the fault of a collision lies with the motorist, the most common error made by the motorist is failure to yeild right of way. When the fault lies with the person on the bike, the most common error is riding without due care and attention. Drivers are twice as likely to refuse to yeild right of way.
