Not the most helpful responses to problem that could leave me stranded in sub-freezing temperatures again. I really should have bought my bike from the other LBS. I wonder if it would be safe using a butane torch to unfreeze it, should it happen while I'm riding.
Maybe I should take their advice and have the freehub replaced as warranty work.
I have had this once, one freehub only. One idea that was suggested to me, as a "get you home" thing, was to find a bush to hide behind and pee on it. I have never tried this. The only time it stuck was when it had been in the garage overnight at below-25C. A preventative would be to bring the bike inside overnight when serious cold conditions are forecast. Morningstar tools have a device that makes changing the grease a lot easier.
