I think the self-loathing of the obese McDonalds-munchers is a valid point. I've seen behavior by such types that can only be explained that way.

Also, cagers have seen their gas prices up $1 in the past year. Some of them may be intelligent enough to do the math consciously and realize it might be up another $1 in the *next* year, but most just have a feeling of anxiety they can't place a finger on - they have this eerie feeling things might get rough for their suburban life and 50 mile (each way) commute.

Many may have seen the anti-Kerry ad with the bicycle in it, or heard the comment by one of the neocons about how Kerry's "got a bicycle for you" and associate a bicycle with high gas taxes/gas prices.

Or, they might just think you're gay.
