WIth the old Trek sport-tourer geo, it's a natural for a porteur or rando build: front load, alloy fenders, wide tires, Brooks, etc.
My '84 610 is my brevet bike with a B17, Berthoud bar bag on a TA rack, 650b rolling stock and VO Zep fenders. Tres francais! And a darn sweet bike.
Do what you need to do to hang on to that old Trek. If you sell it, you'll regret it.
