If you are not going back to the same tires you confuse the issue.

To really be sure you have to go back to the same tires, all kinds of things can be different from one 23mm tire to another. If you have the same old tires, it will feel different from the 25s, if you put on different tires it may not. Did you compare the weights of the different tires? Even the construction of the sidewall can make a difference.

If you can try 20 mm tires, they accelerate even better if they are lighter, if you can miss all the little things on the road. Then the 23's will feel a little slower.
