OP: Don't let your pride get in the way of what it right and wrong. If you don't know this yet, you broke the law. Plain and Simple. Going on a red is illegal even if you look both ways to insure that it is clear. Now pay your fine and follow the rules of the road next time, it could save your life!!!
I got stopped the same way and I received an earful of reasons why I shouldn't run reds on a bicycle by a cop. He gave me a ticket, but I think he didn't submit it on his end making it null and void. I think he just wanted to teach me a lesson.
I was the same sorta cyclist like you back in the day thinking that bicycles are above traffic laws. This isn't so. Saving 30 secs is not worth risking your life even if it is clear, you never know...there could be a car speeding trying to beat a yellow that could wipe you out. Red lights are there for a reason.
