First off, I've been a mountain biker for a few years and have never owned a road bike. I may soon be moving to DC, where I think a road bike would be nice. I don't have a ton of money, $1000 is going to be pushing it for me, but I want a good bike. I have test ridden a 2008 specialized allez ($850) and a Giant Defy Carbon ($1500). The carbon I loved, but is to much money. I have seen a bike by Gavin, the Linea. I really like the frame, but it's only sold online and I haven't heard much about the company. Also just found a Trek 1.5 Compact for about $880.

Anyway, I'm looking to get a bike pretty quickly, so any info you guys have would be appreciated. If you have suggestions of different brands or whatever, that's great. I know nothing about road bikes. Thanks for the help!
