Someone's bicycle at the alma-mater had a wire frame lunch box holder - intended for those soft, square lunch-boxes that open up from the top - on the front of their handlebars. That was the coolest thing I've ever seen.

Tried the milk crate, but my butt would rub the top of it. The Wald folders are appealing, but I've had heel strike with panniers, so I'd imagine I would probably have the same issue with the Walds. I just put my backpack on there and hold it with one bungee cord.
