Chris, either bar end shifters or moving the shifters to the handlebar stem are options that I'm considering.

BG, I'll take a pic of the derailleurs tomorrow. They're Simplex, that's all I know.

It could be that I'm just reacquainting myself with riding after a 30 year break as to why the shifters feel so low for me. I'm not going to do anything until a few weeks have passed and I give myself time to get comfortable with the bike. Right now we're still getting used to each other...
