Tire Fitment Guide

Hello enthusiasts (that entry shouldn't offend anyone!). This is my first post, and thank you in advance.

I picked up a 97 Cannondale Silk Path at a garage sale (cheap too). I'm considering using it for those longer rides when I don't want to beat myself up so much (+ 40 miles to 100 in a day). I'm getting it back together (needs a full set of cables and a new RD) and haven't spent any time on it yet. It has the Sun AT-18 rims with the stock Avocet 700c x 38 tires. Its essentially a cyclocross bike. I'm not too wild about the adjustable headshok (tmw).

I'd like to use a narrower road tire, say a 28 to 30 or so. Where can I find information on whether a narrower tire will properly fit the rims?

Thanks again.
