Had an odd race this Sunday. The course was exactly everything I hate, pancake flat with 25 mph winds. But, it was "close" (2 hours away) and I didn't have to get up early for it. Plus, my teammate loves that kind of race. The race was weird though. Right from the start a really fit guy from LaSport gets on front and just drills it. My teammate was 2nd wheel and I was 3rd. I was just hanging on as this guy pushed the pace. I kept thinking he'd pull off but after 20 minutes I could only guess that he was trying to ride the entire field off his wheel. The first hour our average speed was 25 mph (impressive with that wind). Guys would go off the front only to be dragged back by this one guy. He finally pulled off at 58 minutes. The guy pulled for almost an hour! After that we started racing. I didn't feel good, so when the decisive moment came I told my teammate to go without me. He initiates the winning break, and ends up 3rd. I played the field with some false tempo, etc and end up 7th (and yeah, I beat the guy that pulled all day).
