Most expensive components out side the wheels is the brifters. 4 cables and one or two stem Bolts can easily cost $400+ to replace on a higher end bike and easily get a thief $200+ on Craigslist if they get stuff less then a year old. More if they take the time to grab the Derailleurs. 2 more bolts and cut the cables 2 more times.
This is the reason why I have two bikes. I'd be perfectly content to not ride on dirt trails, and stick to the road, but not to leave my nice bike outdoors and unattended.
