Absolutely!!

I do this all the time with running/jogging/hiking or walking mileage. I have a 1.5 mi. loop from my house that I originally measured to be 1.6 - so 2 loops was a 5k. When I "re-clocked" it, it came out 1.5 ... so I walk/jog down the street a bit, past a tree in my neighbors yard... THEN it is 1.6!! And twice around is my 5k. I do this less so on my bike, mainly because some of my bikes don't have computers on them, and on the ones that do, half the time I forget to reset the trip mileage - but I totally understand your reasoning!

My Dad, who is not at all athletic, but who is conscientious about the weight struggles in his family, decided to take his bi-weekly jogs to another level and train for a marathon. He was very dedicated to this goal and while he achieved a fitness level he had never experienced before, he knew by "race" day that he could not run the entire distance without stopping from time to time and walking. Because of his desire to complete a marathon jogging, when he stopped to walk he actually turned around and walked back in the direction he came from... for a few minutes, then walked back to the point where he had stopped jogging, and started jogging again. People thought he was nuts. I rode my bike along the route in support, weaving in and out of spectators - some of whom were teasing him... yelling "Hey! You're supposed to go the other way!", when he walked. I was all emotional (an older teenager if I remember right), yelling back at them... defending my Dad. He was just doing his thing - plodding along with his giant, bright yellow headphones, (he was too practical to spend $ on the trendy lightweight headphones of the times), swaying his head back and forth to some "easy listening" tunes. Point of the story, he did jog 26.2 miles, (and likely covered at least another mile walking his legs "loose"). His finisher's shirt read "26.2", not 24.9 + 1.3 walking.

I mean, come on.... did the T-shirt or jersey for your ride read "97.5" mi on it? or did it read "century"?

You rode the 100!! Congrats!

(That Fire Century ride sounds awesome, btw.)
