How Difficult is it Getting Your Bike Out and back In Everyday?
I live in a 4th floor walkup - studio apmt. So I carry my 16" folder that weighs around 23lbs down 4 flights of stairs of a fairly narrow stairwell every morning and then down a hall and out two front doors that each have 3 steps. Then I have to bring it back up the same in the evening.
The folder is great for storing at work under my desk. In a couple weeks I'll be getting a new full size bike that weighs 36.6lbs. So it will be heavier and bulkier, but should still be well worth the effort. Living in NYC as I do, having to negotiate stairs is a likely proposition. So this factored into my decision to not buy a super heavy/bulky dutch bike. But I'm sure for a lot of you with carbon road bikes - 36.6lbs is already super heavy.
I'm just curious what other people's situations are. Are you able to store your bike safely on a ground floor or is it up higher? Does anybody carry their bike downstairs by elevator? I wonder what's the most # of floors anyone carries their bike down and up on a daily basis. I imagine most bf'ers live in detached houses and can therefore keep a bike on a ground floor.
Does the relative difficulty of getting your bike in and out of your place factor into the frequency with which you take it out for a ride?
