I kept sliding off when I tried to ride fast and had discomfort on my back. Plus, it looks totally stupid...
Though, if your boyfriend's bike is more FGFS oriented, then it's not a faux pas to have the saddle pointed upwards. A lot of FGFSers are doing it.

My bike is so scratched up from locking but the white hides it well.
