Reynolds MV32c UL wheel out of true in less than 200 miles..help please.
So a few months ago I bought a set of MV32c UL wheels from Competitive Cyclist because they were running a 50% off sale on all their Reynolds wheels. At that time I was in the process of moving for a new job and I haven't had much time to use the wheels since then. I'd say they have less than 200 miles on them overall.
Today, I was going to go for a short ride after work because the sun was still out, but before my ride I noticed my brakes rubbing against the rim. I've noticed this happening recently, but I assumed it was my brake caliper going a little off-center. So today I centered my brake caliper and spun the wheel again only to discover the pad was still hitting the rim at one point. That's when I realized the rim wasn't true anymore. Bummer.
My last ride with these wheels was a 55 mile ride about a week ago. I can't recall running over anything or hitting any abnormal bumps in the road during that ride. For the record, I am 5'11" and 180 lbs.
Anyone else out there experience anything similar with Reynolds wheels? Are these wheels not strong enough to ride/train on? Prior to buying them, I read several reviews that said they were strong enough to be used as an every day wheel. I guess not.
Overall, I'm pretty disappointed that this happened with wheels that normally went for $2500. In comparison, the Bontrager Race wheels on my old Trek were heavy, but they sure could take a beating. I used to bunnyhop curbs all the time and I showed that bike no mercy. The wheels were true as can be the day I sold it. Maybe it's time for a nice set of aluminum rim handbuilts.
Should I contact CC, Reynolds, or just take it to a LBS? I don't know how to repair it myself and I don't know of any decent wheel builders in this area. I'd be willing to buy a truing stand and learn how to fix it myself if this can be done for less than $100.
Thanks!
