I think a tour of the entire West Coast (or Left Coast) might be a good idea. Depending on your warm/cold levels, you can vary them by moving north/south on the coast. I love the merely warm summers up here in the Pacific NW. I grew up in N Minnesota and the winters were the good time of the year. I don't like humidity or bugs.
I loved the dryness of the Rockies but too dry to live there for me. I went through Denver a long time ago and I couldn't see a block because of the smog.
Earthquakes are all that dangerous, it is water that kills and destroys the most. Floods, tsunamis, etc. Live on a bit of a hill. Come visit Port Townsend WA if you are in this region.
