For the sake of argument, 100 miles of climbing, even moderate, is more work than 100 miles of flatland and 100 miles at 8000 feet is different from 100 miles at sea level. Being acclimated (and I live at 5000 feet) doesn't really make at ride at 8000 equivalent to one at sea level.
Sure it's more work, I never said it wasn't, I'm suggesting that you are more used to climbing than somebody from NoLA. If you brought a flat lander on your ride who never left a flat geography, they would crumble...that's a fact.
