I believe that the majority of my problems came from pushing big gears. I think that if I had switched to a compact crank a couple of years earlier rather than letting my pride keep me on a 53/39 I would still be racing. The torn meniscus was caused by a dirt bike accident but that was just the final straw after years of knee pain.
Hmm. I decided to keep my triple a couple weeks ago after climbing a really, really gnarly hill that I wouldn't be able to climb with a 50/39. But I think this is an even more compelling argument.
