What I am most interested in from folks who have done this before are reviews of lodging in the towns I mentioned. The lists of lodging are readily available but haven't found any recommendations on which B&B in Confluence, for example, would be the best option.
The Hertz is right at the airport. You can take either Lebanon Church Rd or Curry Hollow Rd. Curry Hollow will have less traffic but you will need to take the ramp up to the Dravsoburg Bridge. Lebanon Church will lead you right onto the Dravosburg Bridge. If you take Curry Hollow you will need to make a left onto 837 then bear to your left up the Dravosburg Bridge.
Cross the Dravosburg Bridge into Mckeesport. Make a left on to Monongahela Ave.
The GAP actually starts the far side of the 5th Ave. Bridge but the trail is full of glass in Mckeesport and is useless. So do not cross the bridge. Instead, you will stay on the far side of the river (the side Boston is on anyway).
You will come to a gas station. Make a left at the gas station onto a steep ramp. This will take you to Pacific Ave. Head down Pacific toward the Yough. Make a right at the end of Pacific then a quick left. Basically you will be paralleling the 5th Ave Bridge for a bit then crossing under it. This is River Ave.
Follow River Ave along the Yough. After passing under a high bridge, the area will become even more industrial and road a bit more chopped up Keep going till the end of the road. On your left you will see a Jersey Barrier. The trail is behind the barrier. Boston is just up and over the other side of the hill.
If you stay in Boston then stay at the Yough Shore Inn. Let me know if you want to stay there and I can give directions.
Woody's is a fantastic Italian restaurant just on the other side of the Boston Bridge.
