sounds like he doesn't cycle
when I started riding a lot I got a couple saddle sores but no more
I wash with a washcloth every day
I wash before rides
during rides get up out of the saddle often (learn how)
while out of the saddle during a brief coast adjust your shorts so they aren't in the same position for the whole ride
all the powder in the world isn't going to keep you dry
you'll be making moisture so deal with it like the pros (what, you think Lance doesn't sweat?)
I soak in a hot tub with epsom salt (and bath soap) after (most) rides (lots of salt for 20 minutes minimum)
I use a wash cloth in the tub (gently)
I shave my balls but not the crease between balls and legs (shaving has nothing to do with cycling but I learned not to shave the crease cuz occasional stubble can be uncomfortable)
saddle sores are pusslike ingrown hairs so deal with them the same way you deal with pimples, hot water, soaking, pop only if necessary and use Clearasil
no chamois butter, no Vaseline, no nothing, (before or after rides) make sure you are dry before getting dressed after your baths or showers only use a cream if you need to heal a bad case of diaper rash, yes you can use the unscented diaper rash cream, but only in a painful emergency cuz the creme will clog pores. to remove it, don't scrub - soak in a hot salty soapy tub, you'll love it, I promise.
baths aren't only for women so check your ego, grab a scotch and get in there! :-) you butt is gonna thank you
** more about butt hair. when i did get saddle sores I got them at the pressure points on my butt where the saddle pressed against my skin in the same spot for the whole ride. so again get up out of the saddle and shift those shorts giving those little hairs a break. I also trim the hair length on my butt using an electric hair trimmer set to the longest setting. this reduces the length of the hairs without shaving them off. the ladies will appreciate a less hairy butt as well. in fact while you're at it guys keep going, the ladies really don't like a hairy mess anywhere.
