Part of the reason I went again is that I seem to be getting them not from typical cycling activities too. I had shoulder surgery and have been off the bike and trainer for a while, but I got some recently just from riding a recumbent exercise bike for < 1 hour. As it was a recumbent at the time I wasn't wearing cycling shorts either, just polyester compression shorts.
This doesn't surprise me. I'm far more susceptible to saddle sores during indoor winter training than I am with a lot more hours in the summer. I don't know why, trainers and rollers are a whole lot harder on my body than a real road ride.
