If you want a nice overall area with decent cycling as well as people and communities I would look towards the Irvine area. There are a lot of cyclists there and it is a nice safe are as well. It seems as though everytime I buy a part off craigslist the guy lives in or near irvine lol. It looks like burbank and pasadena areas have nice riding, but I. Just can't stand the environment the closer you get to LA. Sure ill go there to club or party, but I wouldn't want to live out there.
I agree with you on Irvine. The cycling is great. I did a 45 mile ride today through Irvine and around the Newport Back Bay. The downside of course is the promimety to Burbank. However, if someone wanted to take the train the Amtrak does go from Irvine to Glendale or Burbank, but it would be a pain.
