I got one towards the end of the summer last year. It is my first SS (since I was a tot anyways) and if only for that reason I feel it was a great choice.
When I chose I also thought about the option to mount bigger tires, fenders, etc. It might not not have the snappiest (is that even a word?) handling, but it sure is fun to ride. Solid frame, good brakes (had to stop VERY quickly yesterday), and generally very good components (I went for the pedal upgrade).
At the time it was slightly <$500 direct from IRO, which might have been a tad high compared to other choices. But I got a great bike, and some really excellent customer service too. I felt even better when I saw the price go up 20% about 3 weeks after I bought.
