I have a SON and don't get me wrong, it works great, but I only have it because it came with a wheelset that fell into my hands. If I were paying for a dynamo, I'd probably go with a less expensive one such as a Sanyo.
I had originally planned more along those lines, but the cost of the hub is only a portion of the total cost. Saving even $100 when my total bill is approaching $500 (including lights & labor) didn't seem worthwhile. I'd rather just get the hub I really wanted.
