I know that those girls are around. But they're the sidewalk riding type or riding rust buckets because it's convenient. I know, I know, it sounds elitist of me but I was implying the serious commuters and cyclists in general. In fact in my group rides me at 23, I'm the youngest one there regardless of gender. And I meant the members here. We have plenty of ladies but only the guys are posting pics (yes I'll join ya as soon as I can get my gf to take my pic of me spandexed out). And at bike shops too, the roadies buying stuff are all old men. I polled my classmates on UofL and none of the girls have ever thought of riding a bike more than a mile down the sidewalk. Most of my communications class didn't even know it was illegal to do so. sigh. I feel like a cycling island at UofL
I think there's a general reluctance on the part of women to post their pics online for a whole host of reasons.
College age women have less disposable income than old men and probably don't want to spend what little they have on roadie stuff.
There are lots of young women riding around here and they're serious cyclists but they aren't the spandex wearing type that's going to spend $2k on a road bike and accessories. They'll spend $200 on a SS/fixed gear instead and ride in "regular" clothes depending on how you define that.
If you want to see some like-minded, spandex clad young women on road bikes, find some triathlon training club ride or better yet, get into racing. It's still going to be mostly men though.
